Mary is a graduate of McGill University, holding a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Physical Therapy with distinction in her final year. This was subsequent to pursuing a Bachelor’s of Science in Kinesiology at SFU and UBC. Since then she has worked extensively in private practice in the Vancouver area and Calgary, and has a broad base of acute care knowledge from working in large teaching hospitals in Vancouver, which included work in pre- and post- surgical Orthopaedics, Spinal Cord Unit, ICU and Neurology. Mary has a patient centered approach to treatment. Having experienced various spinal issues through sports injuries herself, Mary has a unique understanding of the challenges of recovering from physical disability. As a result, she believes in empowering her patients with knowledge of their injuries, the healing process and how best to move forward with modifications in bio-mechanics and basic alterations in lifestyle. Assessment and treatments are drawn from a variety of evidence-based models, and incorporate specific exercise prescription with manual/manipulative therapy, Traditional Chinese acupuncture and/or Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS), and soft tissue techniques. She believes an active home exercise program is imperative in the return to “normal function”, and is always tailored to the individual’s age, mindset, lifestyle and functional capacity. In this way, the patient is expertly guided to achieving success in injury prevention, optimal healing, and returning to physical activities that they enjoy and are passionate about. Mary holds a post-graduate diploma in Advanced Manual and Manipulative Physiotherapy, is certified in Medical Acupuncture and Intra-Muscular Stimulation. She also has a keen interest in Vestibular Rehabilitation (dizziness and BPPV), acute and chronic neck, shoulder, spine and hip conditions, as well as, the TMJ. She enjoys treating patients of all ages, athletes and weekend warriors alike. Mary has a keen interest in athletics, having provided physiotherapy for SFU Junior Varsity Soccer , Varsity Football and Wrestling teams, Women’s World Cup fast pitch tournaments, and the Special Olympics.
